A Senate committee has launched a study into the reasons behind delays in the criminal justice system. It might not be a question for a moonlit balcony, but it is one of several philosophical questions with practical applications that the Federal Court is asking of stakeholders in the legal system. What is the purpose of court costs, and how best to apply them? What about pro bono cases?
