Daphne E. Dumont, C.M., Q.C, is this year’s recipient of the Cecilia I. Johnstone Award. The 2019 Award will be presented during the Cecilia Johnstone Award Luncheon on October 19, the second day of the Leadership Conference for Professional Women. Dumont was one of the first women lawyers in PEI. She was the first female president of the PEI CBA and President of the national CBA in 2000-01.

The first Sunday of September each year the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope happens in 35 communities across Canada. This is the largest event of its kind in Canada, and the only walk in Canada to direct all attention and fundraising towards helping women with ovarian cancer live fuller, better and longer lives.

On March 8, International Women’s Day, fifty women lawyers and judges gathered in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island for the 9th annual PEI Women Lawyers Forum luncheon and professional development day.

Robes have been ubiquitous with lawyers dating back to the Middle Ages and have been viewed as a grand tradition of the legal profession. Robes can be controversial at times, with some questioning their relevance in the 21st century legal profession.

For the past several years, the Women Lawyers Forum has been fortunate to send a representative to two meetings of the ABA – the midyear meeting and the annual meeting. This year the midyear meeting took place in Las Vegas in January.
