New from the CBA Legal Futures Initiative this month is a two-part tool for small and solo law firms: a report on the state of innovation in their sector of the profession, including interviews with lawyers who have blazed their own trails, along with a practical guide for managing change.

Last year, when seats opened up on the national Board of Directors under the new governance structure, I decided to apply, and I had the privilege of sitting on the first board faced with the challenge of operating under the new CBA 2.0 structure.

One of this year’s recipients of LFFF funding is an initiative by the Women Lawyers Forum to survey gender-based compensation at the big firms operating in Canada.

The CBA Women Lawyers Forum, along with the OBA WLF, held a special event in October commemorating the anniversary of the Touchstones for Change report. The event was recorded and will be available for viewing online.

The CBA WLF, together with the OBA WLF, are pleased to present a truly unique event - the 25th Anniversary commemoration of the CBA Gender Equality Task Force Report, Touchstones for Change: Equality, Diversity and Accountability.

Since the CBA annual meeting now takes place in February instead of August, the deadline for nominations for a number of awards has been changed this year to October 15.

The CBA Immigration Law Section is accepting nominations for its Founders’ Award. This award recognizes an exceptional law student or junior lawyer and a future leader of our Section. The successful candidate will be recognized at our National Immigration Law Conference in May 2019.

The CBA Competition Law Section has announced this year’s winner of the James H. Bocking Memorial Award.
