Message from the Chair: Criminal Justice Law wants you!

  • February 06, 2017

Dear Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Suzanne Costom for chairing the Section last year and to congratulate her on her recent appointment to the bench. As your new CBA National Criminal Justice Section Chair, I would also like to provide you with an update on Section activities.

In December, the Section met with representatives from Department of Justice Canada and we hope to maintain this relationship throughout the year. The Section continues its longstanding work with many national associations active in criminal justice including the Uniform Law Conference of Canada, the Steering Committee on Justice Efficiencies, and National Associations Active in Criminal Justice, and liaise with the members of our Imprisonment and Release Committee.

There are many opportunities to get involved with the National Section and I invite you to take a look at the information below and participate in Section activities.

Sincerely,
Loreley Berra, Chair of CBA National Criminal Justice Section

LEGISLATION & LAW REFORM

Interested in federal law reform activities and want to influence CBA policy on criminal law matters? This can include contributions to Section submissions, presentations of Section submissions to parliamentary committees, responses to government consultations and discussion papers, and work with volunteers from other CBA Sections on areas of common interest. There is ample opportunity for anyone with interest in criminal justice policy to get involved and ensure our voice is heard. We encourage you to join the Section in this important and fulfilling work. Please contact Gaylene Schellenberg for more information.
