CBA on Bill C-46 - Impaired Driving Act

On September 18, the Canadian Bar Association appeared before the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights on Bill C-46, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (offences relating to conveyances). Kathryn Pentz, treasurer of the CBA Criminal Justice Section and Senior Crown Attorney for Cape Breton appeared on behalf of the CBA’s Criminal Law Section.

CBA on privacy of Canadians at airports and borders

The Canadian Bar Association appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. The submission was prepared by the CBA Privacy and Access, Immigration Law, and Commodity Tax, Customs and Trade Sections, as well as the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA) and the Ethics Subcommittee of the Policy Committee of the Board.

Billed-basis accounting update

On September 8, 2017, the government released its draft legislation to implement changes to billed-basis accounting for work in progress. The Canadian Bar Association welcomes the news that the proposal reflects a longer coming-into-force period.
