Roles and Expectations: CBA National Health Law Section

Any member of the Executive Committee shall cease to hold office upon ceasing to be a member of the CBA or the Section.

All members of the Executive Committee must familiarize themselves with resources provided to Section leaders and operate collaboratively in accordance with CBA policies and procedures.

CHAIR

  • Oversee activities and preside at meetings and conference calls
  • Report to the Board of Directors as required

VICE-CHAIR

  • Act for the Chair in the absence or inability of the Chair to act
  • Attend meetings and conference calls and assist the Chair and Executive Committee as needed, which may include taking the lead on one or more initiatives

SECRETARY

  • Prepare minutes of meetings and conference calls in a timely manner
  • Attend meetings and conference calls and assist the Executive Committee as needed

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER*

  • Attends meetings and conference calls and is responsible for keeping Section members informed of key Section activities, upcoming events, and opportunities to get involved in the work of the Section.
  • Champions and promotes the Section and the CBA to law students, articling students and young lawyers
  • Coordinates efforts of the Section Executive, its committees and liaisons
  • Seeks input from, reaches out to, and engages students, articling students and young lawyers in Section activities

PAST CHAIR

  • Attend meetings and conference calls and assist the Executive Committee as needed

MEMBER-AT-LARGE

  • Attend conference calls and assist the Executive Committee as needed, which may include taking the lead on one or more initiatives; in-person meetings are not funded

*The Communications Officer sequentially occupies each office through to Past Chair, which involves a five-year commitment.
