The Canadian Bar Association is pleased with the announcement that the Hon. Michelle O’Bonsawin has been nominated to the Supreme Court of Canada, to fill the Ontario seat currently held by Justice Michael J. Moldaver, who retires on September 1.

Last year, the House of Commons adopted a motion to recognize Emancipation Day on August 1. On this date 188 years ago, the Slavery Abolition Act, an Act of British Parliament, came into effect officially abolishing slavery in most of the British Empire, including what is now Canada.

The Canadian Bar Association’s Fellowship Committee has selected Brandyn Rodgerson to receive the 2022-2023 Viscount Bennett Fellowship for his graduate legal studies.

The Canadian Bar Association introduced a comprehensive new toolkit to provide Canadian lawyers in private practice with commentary, resources and best practices with respect to the financial aspects of retainers. The CBA Retainers and Fees Toolkit also highlights some of the ethical obligations that arise with respect to retainers and fees.
