Building Capacity

So, you have taken The Path: Your Journey through Indigenous Canada…now what? Join the CBA for a new three-part virtual series on Building Indigenous Intercultural Capacity.

Presented by NVision Insight Group, creators of The Path, this series provides participants with the knowledge and tools needed to understand their own cultural and racial attitudes by discussing race and culture, stereotypes, cultural bias and how to be anti-racist. It will undo the ‘myths of Canada’ and highlight the skills necessary to build Indigenous intercultural capacity.

Session 1: Race and Culture (90 minutes)
What is race? What is culture? This presentation will peel back the layers of the concepts and history of race and racism to understand what anti-Indigenous racism looks like in Canada and learn how our own cultures influence the ways we see, feel and act.

Session 2: Bias and Stereotypes (90 minutes)
How do we begin to understand bias, including the difference between preference and bias, inherent bias, and cultural bias? Cultural bias against Indigenous peoples is often based on stereotypes. This session focuses on confronting, debunking, and countering these stereotypes.

Session 3: Building Indigenous Intercultural Capacity (90 minutes)
What skills are necessary to build Indigenous intercultural capacity? This session focuses on fostering adaptation skills, self-knowledge, an attitude of respect, intercultural communication, and other attitudes and skills to be anti-racist and strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and governments.

Registrants are required to attend all three sessions.  The CBA recommends completing the online course The Path: Your Journey through Indigenous Canada before attending these sessions.
