WHEREAS the governing documents of CBA Sections should better reflect the fact that they are subject to the CBA Bylaws

WHEREAS the governing documents of CBA Conferences should better reflect the fact that they are subject to the CBA Bylaws

WHEREAS the CBA has demonstrated its commitment to remove barriers for women and visible minorities from racialized communities, adopting recommendations from in the landmark Touchstones Report (1993) and the Racial Equality Report (1999)

WHEREAS the Board of Directors mandated a working group in 2010 to review and make recommendations to Council on the membership fee structure of the CBA

WHEREAS the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Hague Convention on Apostilles) replaces the existing and cumbersome process of legalizing documents with a simpler process of apostilles

WHEREAS equal access to justice is a Canadian Bar Association priority, particularly the impact of inadequate government support for legal aid on the most vulnerable and marginalized members of society

WHEREAS Canada is a nation governed by the rule of law, and holds that the law is supreme over government officials as well as private individuals

WHEREAS persons seeking refugee or other similar protection in Canada may be at risk in their home country or elsewhere if their identity becomes known

WHEREAS programs to ameliorate the conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups are recognized under s. 15(2) of Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as an integral feature of equality rights
