Law For the Future Fund grants focus on assistance for vulnerable populations

The Law for the Future Fund (LFFF) grants awarded this year will to go to support and protect some of the most vulnerable persons in Canada. The eight recipients of grants will assist these less fortunate individuals – a range that includes new migrants to Canada, incarcerated persons and individuals with low literacy skills — through research, education, technology, and tools.

Make legal aid matter in federal election campaign

OTTAWA – With today’s official start of the October federal election campaign, politicians of all stripes are on the campaign trail touting the message that a vote for their parties will improve the lives of Canadians. The Canadian Bar Association believes that this is an excellent opportunity for the parties to show how they would take leadership on the issue of legal aid.

Vivene Salmon is the new CBA President

OTTAWA – Vivene Salmon of Toronto began her year-long tenure as CBA President on Sept. 1, 2019. Salmon is the 123-year-old Association’s first president of colour, and only the second president from the in-house counsel community. She takes over from Raymond Adlington of Halifax. Brad Regehr of Manitoba takes over as Vice-President.

Spotlight on new 2019-20 Board members

Six new members will take their seats on the CBA Board of Directors on Sept. 1, 2019. They will join President Vivene Salmon of Ontario and Vice-President Brad Regehr of Manitoba, along with six board members who are entering the second year of their two-year terms.
