CBA Aboriginal Law Conference
Wednesday, June 19 to Friday, June 21, 2019
Banff, Alberta
Staying in Banff a little longer?
Why not join us on Saturday, June 22, 9:00am-4:00pm in Banff for the annual meeting of the national CBA Aboriginal Law Section Executive Committee. Among other things, we will:
- Review the conference and kick off planning for next year.
- Discuss legislation and law reform.
- Hear from our Federal Court liaison representatives.
It’s a great way to network with the Executive, meet other Section members and get a snapshot of the Section’s work. You’ll also be able to raise your hand as additional volunteer opportunities come up. Space is limited! Please email us to confirm your attendance.
Get Involved – Call for Nominations (May 31 deadline)

As always, we also encourage Section members to stay involved by:
- Contributing member articles.
- Joining a committee (including our Law Reform Committee that makes submissions).
- Circulating emails on the Section’s member listserv (sign up and edit your receiving email by visiting the listserv enrolment page).
What else is going on?
Legislation and Law Reform Highlights
- The CBA Truth and Reconciliation Task Force successfully delivered its final report, which has since been adopted by the CBA Board of Directors. We look forward to assisting with its implementation.
- Bill C-69 – Canadian Impact Assessment Act remains before the Senate. We have made submissions (read the most recent submission) and await the outcome. In the meantime, draft regulations have been posted and we will work with the CBA Environment, Energy and Resources Section on a CBA response.
- Bill C-91 – An Act respecting Indigenous languages recently passed a third reading in the House of Commons and is before the Senate. Our comments were submitted in March and we are considering further submissions to the Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples.
- Bill C-92 – An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families is now before Parliament. We have made a submission.
Please be sure to contact us if you have questions. We would be happy to hear from you.
