1. Who can apply to the Law for the Future Fund (LFFF)?
Registered Charitable Organizations may apply for funding. Applicants must include the CRA Charitable Registration number in the funding application form. Not for profit organizations are not eligible for funding.

2. Is there a minimum/maximum amount of funding that can be applied for?
There is no set minimum or maximum amount of funding that can be applied for. The average grant awarded for an individual project is between $10,000 and $40,000.

3. What types of expenses are excluded from funding?
Any project costs must be directly related to the proposed initiative. For clarity, the following costs are not eligible for funding and must not be included in the application:
- Personnel costs (salaries and benefits) that are not specific to carrying out the project
- Portions of salary for individuals who are supervising direct project staff
- Indirect costs: expenses for general operations/research support, facilities (rent or lease), building maintenance, utilities and administrative services.
- Budget deficits
- Sabbaticals
- General operating costs
- Capital expenditures unless they are one-time costs directly related to the implementation of the project
- Sponsorships of fundraising activities or awards events
- Attendance at or holding of conferences, seminars, workshops
No permanent commitments are made to support any type of project. No grants are made to projects which would result in financial gain to an individual or organization.

4. What is the application assessment timeline and when will I be notified of the result of my application?
All applications must be submitted no later than May 1st for this year (unless this day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, in which case the deadline is the next business day) The LFFF Board of Trustees reviews all applications and makes recommendations to the LFFF Board of Directors. The Board of Directors typically finalizes the list of approved grants by the end of June/beginning of July each year and applicants are notified of the results at that time.

5. What is the funding period?
Each project must be on an annual basis. Projects must begin on September 1st and end on August 31st of the following calendar year (12 months).

6. What is the payment schedule for the granting period and reporting requirements?
An interim report must be submitted on or before March 15 of the project year and a final report is due upon completion of the project. Funding is provided in three installments, a cheque for 50% of the funding is sent when the project begins, a second installment for 30% of the funding is issued following receipt of the interim report and the remaining 20% is sent once the final report and materials are received by the Canadian Bar Association.

7. Can an organization that has received funding in the past apply again?
Organizations that have previously received funding from LFFF are eligible to apply for support for a new project or program. However, LFFF will only consider additional funding if it is satisfied that all prior projects have been, or will be, fully completed in accordance with the terms outlined in the original application.

8. Can an LFFF Grant fund an organization's current work?
An LFFF Grant cannot be used to fund projects/programs that the organization is already doing or services it is already providing.

9. Does LFFF provide grants to organizations for general program delivery, core support or general/operating support?
No.

10. Can LFFF funds be used to pay for consultants?
LFFF funds can be used to pay for consultants; interns; law students; and short-term, project-specific contractual workers.
