Under the department of Shared Services and reporting to the Director, Information Technology, the Manager, Database Systems (MDS) will keep the iMIS database running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.


This position can work remotely from anywhere in Canada


Bilingualism an asset (English and French)




  • Monitor and administer all the databases used by the CBA
  • iMIS administration/configuration of the modules the CBA uses
  • iMIS development using iMIS APIs
  • Designing and build databases in accordance to end users’ information needs
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards
  • Create automation for repeating database tasks
  • Be available for on-call support as needed
  • Build and monitor different backup types and perform restore as needed
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
  • Maintain confidential CBA information
  • Provide Management support for the Director, IT as needed



  • A university degree in computer science or relevant certification


  • 10 years of experience with iMIS (ASI) and all the modules
  • 10 years of experience with iMIS (IQA), Crystal report, SSRS, Excel
  • 10 years of proven working experience as a Database Administrator using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Hands-on experience building databases integrating with end user applications
  • Proven working experience with database design, documentation and coding
  • Experience with database integration into financial systems
  • Experience with Power BI
  • Experience working with Finance or Accounting clients an asset

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security and integrity
  • Excellent knowledge of database replications
  • Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles (debits/credits)
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle and prioritize many work assignments concurrently
  • Initiative to identify, analyze and resolve problems quickly
  • Strong analytical, investigative and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong business verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify and implement improvement to processes and procedures
  • Ability to work both individually and in a team
