10 Things You Didn't Know About Vivene Salmon

You may know Vivene as your fellow lawyer, your colleague or the next CBA President. But she is much more than that. Here are 10 things you didn’t know about Vivene Salmon.

Vivene and her brothers Syd and Greg were born into a working-class family. Though her parents are now retired, her father worked as a carpenter and her mom was a Personal Support Worker. Vivene's dad immigrated to Canada May 1967 from Jamaica and became a Canadian citizen in 1973. Her mom immigrated in 1972 to marry her Dad.

She won her high school’s senior art award and fashion sewing arts award two years in a row.

Vivene's first jobs were as the Dairy Queen girl - they only hired girls at the time! She was also a store clerk at the Bay’s Men’s shoes department and a welcome girl at the local wave pool. She worked at an art gallery while in university. Her strangest job was docent at William Lyon Mackenzie King House, Summer residence of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada's tenth, and longest-serving Prime Minister.

She loves documentary films. She tries to go to the HotDocs Toronto Film festival every year. Her favourite fiction movies include Dead Poet's Society, Bridges of Madison County, and City of God.

Vivene’s favourite charities include ReThink Breast Cancer and Food For the Poor Canada. Other causes she has at heart involve art and culture, Health and Literacy. She was involved in the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.

A decade ago, Vivene lived in Sweden.

When she isn't working, she travels to a lot of places including France, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Mexico as well as many Canadian cities. She thinks Lake Moraine is the most beautiful spot in the world.

She sang in choirs all through grade school and high school. Nowadays, Vivene listens to Camila Cabello, Pitbull and Norah Jones Essentials.

Vivene’s greatest challenge has been coming to terms with her mother’s Alzheimer's disease.

Her favourite hobbies are sewing and crafting. She also loves to dance salsa and to read. If you ask her to recommend two books, it would be The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz and Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. She also loves to swim. Speaking of swimming…

Vivene’s biggest accomplishment is learning how to swim as an adult at the age of 25.
