Roles and Expectations: CBA National Public Sector Lawyers Section

Any member of the Executive Committee shall cease to hold office upon ceasing to be a member of the CBA or the Section.

All members of the Executive Committee must familiarize themselves with resources provided to Section leaders and operate collaboratively in accordance with CBA policies and procedures.

CHAIR

  • Oversee activities and preside at meetings and conference calls
  • Report to the Board of Directors as required
  • Appoint members to and supervise the work of committees
  • Participate in the nominating committee for any Section election
  • Actively participate as a member of the selection committee for the John Tait Award of Excellence

VICE-CHAIR

  • Act for the Chair in the absence or inability of the Chair to act
  • Attend meetings and conference calls and assist the Chair and Executive Committee as needed, which may include taking the lead on one or more initiatives
  • Participate in the nominating committee for any Section election
  • Actively participate as a member of the selection committee for the John Tait Award of Excellence

SECRETARY*

  • Prepare minutes of meetings and conference calls in a timely manner
  • Attend meetings and conference calls and assist the Executive Committee as needed

PAST CHAIR

  • Participate in the nominating committee for any Section election
  • Attend meetings and conference calls and assist the Executive Committee as needed
  • Actively participate as a member of the selection committee for the John Tait Award of Excellence

MEMBER-AT-LARGE

  • Attend conference calls and assist the Executive Committee as needed, which may include taking the lead on one or more initiatives; in-person meetings are not funded

*The Secretary sequentially occupies each office through to Past Chair, which involves a four-year commitment.
