Section Representation at the ABA Young Lawyers Spring Conference

Young Laywers ABA Conference

We are excited to advise that our incoming Section Chair, Adam Norget, was invited to attend the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Spring Conference in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the CBA Young Lawyers Section. The Conference featured meetings with several influential individuals in Washington, including Senator Lindsay Graham, Congressman Joe Kennedy III, former US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, and the Clerk of the US Supreme Court, Scott Harris.

Young Laywers Meeting

There was a strong international focus and several other international attendees were in attendance, including representatives for Young Lawyers organizations from the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Spain, as well as the Jeune Barreau de Québec. Adam had the valuable opportunity to speak at the closing plenary session about the issues that young lawyers in Canada are passionate about, as well as the unique challenges that we face in our profession, including issues relating to articling, practice management, wellness, and mental health. He also served as a guest judge for the International Oratory Competition, which featured competitors from around the world.

The opportunity to meet and share ideas with our international colleagues clearly demonstrated that the issues that are relevant to CBA Young Lawyers are not unique to Canada. We anticipate that being able to leverage the feedback and experience of our international colleagues will greatly assist us in continuing to advocate for the interests of Young Lawyers in the upcoming year.

Being the Change We Want to See in the World: CBA Bootcamp for Racialized Lawyers

The CBA held its first Bootcamp in Leadership for Racialized Lawyers in Toronto this May. The sold-out crowd heard from distinguished judges, in-house counsel, lawyers and coaches on what it takes to be an effective leader in Canada's new and evolving legal landscape. Whether that means never sacrificing one's integrity, calling out double standards, or working to be your own authentic self, the Section congratulates incoming CBA President Vivene Salmon and our Chair, Kang Lee, for a great conference!

We and CBA Advantage Are Here to Pump You Up

Following a survey of what Young Lawyers were looking for with respect to Member Savings, access to a discounted gym membership and high-quality childcare topped the list. After many years in the making and with consistent follow-up by the Section, gains were made. CBA Members can now save up to 40% on a Goodlife Membership, including access to over 250 clubs nationwide and the all-important towel service.

Yours sincerely,
