COVID-19 Spring Curve with Pension and Benefits Law Section

  • May 07, 2020

Our Section is continuing to monitor developments as various Canadian jurisdictions and regulators respond to COVID-19 and consider the shift back to work, schooling and life as usual. These challenging times have forced governments and regulators to review the pension business and its stringent requirements. To support you as you navigate these waters, we have gathered resources to assist you in your daily practice.

COVID-19 Pension and Benefits Resources

A list of COVID-19 easing measures has been provided by Canadian governments and regulators: Employment and Pension Benefits (as of April 15, 2020).

The CBA has created a COVID-19 Resource Hub that has valuable information to support members during these uncertain times.

Looking for Talent: Professional Development Committee

Do you have a webinar idea? Do you want to contribute to the work of our Section? The CBA is developing resources to meet your needs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you have or want to develop a webinar that would provide substantive law learning and guidance for Pensions and Benefits Law practitioners, this is a good opportunity to share your expertise and give back to the profession. You can join the Professional Development Committee by emailing us.

What’s Up with the Section

  • Outreach Committee: The Committee reached out to lawyers attending a course on pension law reform in Toronto March 11, 2020. Approximately 20 people heard about the CBA’s advocacy and governmental relations work. It was a great opportunity to meet new members face to face and highlight the CBA’s work across Canada. We need your help recruiting new members! If you have ideas and want to serve, you can join the Outreach Committee.
  • Advocacy and Government Relations Committee: Annual meetings with regulators and Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) Stakeholder Dialogue that were to be held in April and March, respectively, have been canceled or postponed. We will keep you posted as new dates are confirmed. If you want to have a voice when new legislation, regulations or policies are announced, you can join the AGR Committee.
  • Communications Committee: Join our LinkedIn Group! We are actively recruiting new members to join this committee, write articles, and help with our communication strategy and social media!
