Message from the Chair: The National IP Section Wants You!

  • September 12, 2017

Steven Seiferling

Dear Section Members,

The Intellectual Property Section serves as the CBA’s national voice on intellectual property law and legal practice. We contribute to national policy, promote professionalism in the field of IP law, and respond to legislative initiatives. Our members get access to the latest case summaries, submissions, and news. Check out our website and find out who’s on the 2017-2018 executive.

Your national IP Section has been busy! Here’s just some of what we’ve been up to:

We want you to get involved! Here’s how you can stay connected and contribute:

  • Keep up-to-date with the most recent IP Case Summaries. If you know of a decision that has not been reviewed, contact Chantal Saunders.
  • Contribute to our advocacy efforts. Our recent submissions include: Court Funding and Judicial Independence and Trade-marks Act — Use Requirement
  • Join a committee. Our committees deal with substantive issues on topics such as biotechnology, patents and industrial design, counterfeiting and trade offenses, court practice, trade-marks and transactional IP. We value diversity and welcome young lawyers and members from a variety of practice settings.
  • Encourage a law student to enter our IP essay competition. We also need adjudicators and contest sponsors.
  • Participate in IP Day 2018. Don’t miss the premier networking, educational and social event for IP litigators across Canada. Block off May 31 in your calendars now! Check out photos from last year’s CBA Federal Court Judges’ Dinner.

Please contact our staff liaison, Inika Anderson, to join a committee or get involved.

We look forward to hearing from you.
