One Voice on Intellectual Property Law Issues
The CBA Intellectual Property Section serves as the CBA’s voice on the intellectual property law and legal practice. This Section deals with legal issues around ownership, licensing, transfer and protection of intellectual property and related property rights. Our work includes patents, trademarks, copyright, industrial designs, plant breeders’ rights and trade secrets. We advocate, share knowledge and promote professionalism in the field of intellectual property law.
The Section is involved with the Federal Court IP Users’ Committee, which provides input into initiatives to improve IP practice before the Federal Court. The Section also participates in IP roundtables with the Minister and government. We liaise regularly with:
- American Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section
- Industry Canada
- Intellectual Property Institute of Canada
- Canadian Intellectual Property Office
