Welcome to a new CBA year! - October 2019

  • October 18, 2019

Meet our 2019-2020 Executive Committee, whose members are trusted advisors on national health law issues, and as such, will continue to participate in significant legislation and law reform activities as we start this new year.

A tremendous amount of work is completed through the year to drive our priorities and ensure that our opinions and thoughts are captured on various platforms. For example:

  • We hosted the Health Law Summit in April 2019 in Winnipeg with a focus on health and human rights. Highlights included a tour of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and a keynote presentation from Dr. John Young, President and CEO of the museum.
  • We will be canvassing Section members for potential locations and topics for the May 2021 Health Law Summit. If you’re interested in joining the Summit Planning committee, please contact us. We welcome members who are not on the Section Executive.
  • The Section will continue to participate in the advocacy work of the End-of-Life Working Group.
  • Watch for our Law Student Essay Contest, which promotes interest in health law topics in Canadian law schools and encourages law student participation in the Section. This year’s winning paper — titled Affirming Health as a Positive Right in Canada: Lessons from South Africa — was written by University of Ottawa’s Anika Winn. The deadline for the 2020 contest is Mar. 31, 2020.
  • We will continue to participate in two long-standing coalitions: one with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association’s Advance Care Planning Task Force and one with the Canadian Patient Safety Institute.

We invite you to get involved. We’re always looking for new committee members and volunteers. Contact us for information, and visit our webpage for recent resources, submissions, news and articles! Don’t forget to join our LinkedIn group!

We look forward to working with you to further education, knowledge and sharing as well as establish best practices in health law nationally.
