NEERLS Update - February 2019

  • February 01, 2019

As the new year gets under way, the National Environmental, Energy and Resource Law Section (NEERLS) is looking forward to a productive and successful 2019!

NEERLS had a busy fall, playing an active role at the Canadian Bar Association and we are pleased that Sections have continued to receive strong support to continue to offer great programming to our members and give meaningful input on legislative initiatives. In 2018, we commented on the proposed Impact Assessment Act and the Federal Ineligibility and Suspension Policy (see the submissions below).

The 2018 CBA NEERLS & DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE MEETING event in Ottawa provided a great opportunity for exchange between Section members and their DOJ counterparts. PD sessions were led by some of Canada’s top experts on matters such as federal environmental assessment, infrastructure projects, climate change and the federal clean fuel standard.

On May 2 and 3, NEERLS will hold its annual Summit – please plan to join us in Vancouver! We will also be holding webinars to update members on various legal trends as well as providing foundational sessions for those in early years of practice. Please check our webpage regularly for updates and other upcoming events.

We encourage law students to enter the Section’s essay contest to win the Gowling WLG – David Estrin Prize. Deadline February 28, 2019.

Please consider joining one of NEERLS committees - it is a great opportunity to stay abreast of legal developments across the country and meet fellow practitioners from every jurisdiction.

We look forward to hearing from you.
