Current Practice Trends in Canadian Private M&A – November 24

The panel will discuss evolving market practices and current trends in Canadian Private M&A, based on the findings of Practical Law Canada’s fifth annual report: What’s Market: Legal Trends in Canadian Private M&A. Gain insights into key provisions in purchase agreements such as purchase price adjustments, indemnification and break fees.

The Langlois Prize – Law Student Essay Contest

2021 marks the third year of the law student essay contest, the Langlois Prize. Langlois Lawyers sponsors both the English and French contests related to general topics in Canadian business law.

The Section is pleased to announce the winners of the 2021 Langlois Prize Law Student Essay Contest:

Tamya Chowdhury for her English-language paper titled “Lessons from Uber v Heller: the case for UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration Reform”. Tamya received her JD with Distinction from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in April 2021.

Sina Faraji for his French-language paper titled “L’interprétation des contrats en droit des affaires et la règle du texte clair : une confusion jurisprudentielle” (available only in French). Sina is a recent graduate of the Université de Montréal Law Faculty where he earned a Bachelor of Civil Law (LL.B.) and a Juris Doctor of Common Law (J.D.).

Advocacy Highlights

Our Section continues to participate in meetings and constructive dialogue with respect to advocacy initiatives that may impact your corporate/commercial clients.

In 2021, members of the Executive will represent our Section on the following ongoing projects:

  • Create a guide on business and human rights which will be published this fall. The guide will cover business risk and corporate responsibility, as well as business and human rights. Stay tuned!
  • Participate in the CBA Anti-Corruption Team
