The CBA Admin Law Insider: What’s New? May 2019

  • May 10, 2019

We are excited to provide an update on the Section’s recent activities and remind you of upcoming key dates and ways to engage.

What’s New?

  • Essay Competition Winner – The winner of the 2019 Paul Smith Memorial Award is Giancarlo Mignardi, a third year JD student at Queen’s University. Giancarlo’s paper, “Select Issues with Curial Deference on the Basis of Administrative Expertise: A behavioural approach to Canadian administrative law’s ‘prodigal child’” will be published on the Section’s website soon. Congratulations Giancarlo!
  • Laskin Moot – In March, students from 18 Canadian law schools competed in the 2019 Laskin Moot competition. As in past years, the Section hosted a reception for the competitors, with members Olga Redko and Pam Hrick providing greetings. The Section also assists in coordinating practice sessions for participating law schools from across the country. If you would like to be involved next year, please contact us.
  • Supreme Court Intervention – In December 2018, CBA delivered an intervener factum to the Supreme Court of Canada in its trilogy of appeals on standard of review, following a successful intervention proposal from the Section. See the full list of factums here.
