PARALEGAL ASSISTANT

REPORTING TO THE GENERAL COUNSEL, NORTH AMERICA 

Location: MARKHAM, ON/REMOTE

About the role:

The Paralegal role would support the General Counsel, North America and Greenergy Group legal team with contract lifecycle and file/matter management, as well as routine contract preparation and review under the supervision of the Legal Counsel and GCNA. The Paralegal role would also provide support to the GCNA’s corporate governance/corporate secretary duties by assisting with regulatory filings and maintenance of corporate records and additional administrative support as necessary. 

Key activities: 

  • Organizing and maintaining legal files.
  • Drafting and interpreting legal documents including template commercial agreements.
  • Creating and managing report summaries.
  • Managing external counsel.
  • Filing documents with any applicable court systems.
  • Reviewing and summarizing legislative updates.
  • Ensuring the management of all legal administrative related duties.

  • Paralegal and/or Law Clerk diploma program.
  • 3 to 5+ years’ experience in a law firm or legal department of a company/in-house group providing comprehensive legal contract review, interpretation, drafting and negotiating.
  • Ability to work independently, to take initiative, and to use judgment in matters of extreme confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • Be able to work with various business departments who have complex needs and works independently in a fast-paced environment as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated time management and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
  • Experience and strong proficiency with computer software packages including legal research applications, MS Office and Adobe Acrobact.
  • Experience assessing and communicating legal terms for potential legal and financial risk.
  • Solid analytical and research skills.
  • Extremely organized, and detail orientated with the ability to anticipate requests and be pro-active.
  • Ability to stay focused, efficient, and effective in managing multiple priorities.
