WorkSafeBC's Legal Services department is seeking a lawyer with 4 to 6 years of experience (but are open to candidates with more years) in administrative law and/or employment law for the position of Manager, Prohibited Action Hearings. The Manager is responsible for managing the written hearing process for complaints made under the Workers Compensation Act ("WCA") related to workplace reprisals for exercising health and safety rights under the WCA.

As the Manager, Prohibited Action Hearings you will:

  • Lead a team of legal counsel and support staff accountable for the prohibited action complaints hearing process
  • Be responsive to and work collaboratively with stakeholders, including the Workers' Adviser's Office, the Employers' Advisers Office and the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal, to ensure the efficient functioning of the prohibited action complaints process
  • Keep your legal skills sharp and providing legal direction to legal counsel and support staff to ensure the written hearing process for prohibited action complaints is sound
  • Work to continuously improve service delivery
  • Get to know WorkSafeBC as an organization as a whole, understanding what we do and what our goals are

We're looking for someone who can:

  • Demonstrate strong skills and experience in employment law and/or administrative decision-making
  • Constantly strive to grow and develop as a lawyer, and takes pride in producing a quality legal product
  • Take an outcome-oriented and problem-solving approach with stakeholders and team members
  • Interact with management, team members, and stakeholders in a confident, professional and objective manner
  • Work in our Richmond location, in addition to working remotely

Your experience and background:

  • A member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in administrative law and/or employment law
  • Prior leadership or management/supervisory experience is an asset
