Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Junior Legal Counsel (Corporate) who will be responsible to support the business arm of IRC and its group of companies (IRC Group). Reporting the Manager of Legal Services, the Junior Legal Counsel (Corporate) will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on a wide array of corporate and commercial matters using timely, cost effective and practical methods. The Junior Legal Counsel (Corporate) will draft legal documents and assist in the interpretation and administration of commercial agreements and provide general commercial legal support. The Junior Legal Counsel (Corporate) may also assist members of the IRC Group with regulatory, energy, land use, construction and administrative law matters, and contract management.
Qualifications
- Law Degree (JD/LLB) from a recognized law school for qualification to practice in Canada.
- Admitted member in good standing of a law society in Canada, and upon acceptance of this role, is or will become a member of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories.
- 1-3 years of corporate/commercial law experience, preferably from a major law firm.
- Experience drafting and negotiating agreements and other documents relating to M&A, joint ventures and other partnerships, leases, services agreements and other.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups with demonstrated ability to meet targets.
- Basic understanding of construction law and contracts.
- Supplemental experience in securities, regulatory, energy, employment and/or Indigenous law would be an asset.
