Ontario Employment Lawyer (3+ years of experience)

DMC LLP, Canada's largest dental-only law firm, is looking to add an experienced Mid-Level Employment Lawyer to our team of dental lawyers.

Job Overview:

  • Advising clients on a broad range of employment-related matters including but not limited to hiring, employee compensation and benefits, discipline, terminations, severance packages and approaches to terminations, reductions in workforce and developing strategies for managing risk around employment matters.
  • Assisting clients to ensure their practices are compliant with employment laws and regulations.
  • Drafting/presenting/negotiating employment and associate contracts, termination letters, employment policies & procedures and other employment-related documents.
  • Dealing with pre-litigation employment law matters and settlements (note: we do not do litigation).

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • LLB or JD and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • 4-6 years of Ontario employment law experience (can be less if your articling experience was at an employment law firm)
  • Experience in advising and representing employers in all areas of employment law, including implications of corporate transactions and reorganizations, employment contracts, employment equity, occupational health and safety, human rights, employment standards, privacy, terminations, layoffs and workplace investigation
  • Strong business acumen and ability to think critically
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage caseload independently as well as work cohesively with other team members
  • Superior drafting skills and strong attention to detail
  • Corporate Law experience/knowledge an asset
  • Experience in the dental industry an asset but not required
