These positions are located in Vancouver, B.C., but has conduct of cases throughout the Province. Travel is a requirement. Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements of the ministry.

Crown Counsel Level 2
$125,314.73 - $162,516.77 annually

There are currently two temporary opportunities available until approximately March 2023. These temporary opportunities are not limited to the geographic area. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply. These temporary opportunities will either be a Crown Counsel level 2 or level 3. Criminal Appeals and Special Prosecutions (CASP) has two temporary Crown Counsel positions available in the Organized and Major Crime Section. As a member of the Organized and Major Crime Section, you will have conduct of predominantly organized crime and gang related prosecutions.

CASP is a division of the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS). The BCPS contributes to the protection of society by preparing for and conducting prosecutions diligently and fairly, and by striving to develop the most effective methods to administer justice in the Province. The BCPS prosecutes offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statutes in the Provincial, Supreme and Appeal Courts of British Columbia and in the Supreme Court of Canada. The BCPS provides legal advice to government and police on criminal law matters and develops policies and procedures on issues relating to the prosecution of criminal justice.

CASP’s management recognizes its responsibility to offer diversity in practice and is committed to facilitating the achievement of an enriched working environment. Upon their request and at the discretion of CASP management, the successful candidates may be given opportunities to conduct cases, either as counsel or co-counsel, in all sections of the office, when the operational requirements of CASP allow for it. Efforts will be made by the management group to facilitate access by all counsel to the full range of work available in the office. Assignment to individual cases is dependent on counsel’s level of skill and experience.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws Degree from an accredited common law school.
  • Membership in good standing in the Law Society of British Columbia or membership in good standing in another Canadian Law Society and immediately eligible to become a member of the Law Society of British Columbia.


  • Crown Counsel Level 2: Counsel in their 6th to 11th year of call, with a minimum of 5 years’ criminal trial experience as a practicing lawyer in Canada.
