Legal Services - Corporate Counsel

Reporting to, and working collaboratively with the Executive Director, Office Quality, Risk and Patient Safety and the Director, Risk and Privacy, Corporate Counsel will provide a full spectrum of legal services across the organization including but not limited to: corporate commercial services, privacy law, and administrative law. Corporate Counsel will also lead internal investigations where appropriate.

  • Successful completion of a Bachelors Degree in a related field
  • Successful completion of a three (3) year Bachelor of Law Degree (LL.B.) from an accredited university
  • Current membership in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent, relevant experience
  • Advanced knowledge of the legislative framework governing hospitals and not-for-profit corporations, healthcare professionals, teaching hospitals and patient care an asset
  • Advanced strong legal and management skills with broad legal and business knowledge, and experience of the healthcare system in Ontario
  • Innovative critical thinking skills with the ability to investigate, analyze and problem solve in a highly regulated environment
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration in a team environment with diverse backgrounds, appreciating that different opinions, backgrounds, and characteristics can bring richness to the challenge at hand
  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of the overall hospitla structure, operating policies, related issues and trends, legislation and decision making process
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
