Associate Litigation Lawyer (Mid/Senior level)

Role Overview
We are currently seeking a hardworking and energetic associate specializing in litigation to work in either our Vancouver or Victoria offices. This role will assist the firm’s Partners, as well as other senior associates and senior counsel, to represent our clients in litigation and regulatory matters, and performing day-to-day file management. It is expected that the litigation would primarily relate to Aboriginal law, including Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, consultation and accommodation and issues related to reserve lands and band administration. We also conduct other litigation involving constitutional and administrative law.
Key Responsibilities
It is expected that the associate will assist in the conduct of major files and will assume carriage of small to mid-size litigation files. Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited, to:
- Assisting in developing and executing litigation strategy;
- Assuming carriage of small to mid-sized litigation files;
- Conducting research;
- Drafting correspondence, pleadings and applications;
- Drafting affidavits;
- Interviewing the witnesses and preparing evidence;
- Preparation for discovery;
- Trial preparation, including preparation of questions and statements;
- Attending all levels of court; and
- Assisting with management of files on behalf of our clients.
As this is a professional role in a dynamic field, you may be asked to take on other responsibilities appropriate to your experience.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- 5 to 9 years of litigation experience;
- Strong advocacy skills, and proven client management experience;
- Excellent analytical, interpretive, research and drafting skills;
- Effective oral and written communication;
- Proven negotiation and influencing skills;
- Ability to build relationships with ease and work well in a team environment; and
- Eligibility to practice law in British Columbia as a member of the Law Society of BC.
