Hagel Lawfirm is a boutique estate law firm located in the heart of Port Credit Mississauga. The firm is looking for a full time associate lawyer, with minimum of 3 years post call practice experience (2017 and earlier calls only).

The lawyer will be expected to practice in estate law area, including estate litigation, estate planning and administration of estates as well as having some exposure in closing of real estate transactions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Law Degree from recognized Canadian Law School or equivalent.
  • Licensed in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Strong analytical skills to assess the applicability of legal principles and relevance of evidence.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare a variety of materials including, letters and memos of law.
  • Proficient in the use of internet, word processing and email applications.
  • Proficient in use of PCLaw, ACL, Xchangedocs & Zoom.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Adaptability and attention to detail.
  • Strong critical thinking, interpersonal, public speaking skills.
  • Ability to negotiate, research, and communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
  • Experience in civil litigation (min 3 years).
  • Experience with trust accounting (passing of accounts) strongly desired.
  • General knowledge of real estate transactions. Working knowledge of Unity and Teraview.

Duties and Responsibility

  • Communicating with clients to learn about their legal needs and concerns.
  • Providing legal advice. Explaining legal options, possible outcomes or risks to the clients.
  • Developing strategies to resolve cases favorably and cost-effectively for clients. Finding ethical solutions to legal matters.
  • Building relationships with clients based on trust.
  • Developing arguments and representing clients in civil legal proceedings.
  • Preparing legal court documents, such as statement of claims, application and motion records, mediation briefs and settlement proposals.
  • Drafting wills, power of attorney and trusts documents. Attending at execution.
  • Handle all aspects of the file carriage and manage a variety of other file management tasks and work as assigned.
  • Staying informed about current legislation relevant to the firm’s area of practice.
  • Contributing to the firm’s knowledge base, drafting articles for community publications, websites and blogs.
