The Lawyers at Giddings MacEachern Law serve clients in the areas of corporate, commercial, wills, estates, civil law, and low conflict family law.

Currently, Giddings MacEachern Law is looking to bring on an Associate Lawyer. Under the mentorship of the other lawyers in the office, the junior lawyer will be assigned two primary practice areas, in which they will be expected to master and hold themselves to the highest standards of quality and ethics while providing efficient, practical, and client-focussed legal services.

This role is based onsite at our Smithers, BC office. The vast majority of the work takes place in the office, although may require travel to neighbouring communities, regional courthouses, and other offsite locations.

Main responsibilities include: 

  • Researching legal precedents and interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations for clients, and advising on the same;
  • Drafting legal documents including real estate documents, wills, court documents and contracts;
  • Communicating directly with clients, other parties, professionals, and coworkers to complete tasks within their respective timelines and budgets;
  • Conducting client intakes and maintaining clear and accurate client files;
  • Communicating with clients to keep them informed about the progress of their cases;
  • Attending and leading client meetings and phone calls; 
  • Preparing for and attending hearings, including before courts of law, tribunals, boards and administrative bodies;
  • Performing general administrative tasks as required, including data entry, file management, and coordination with other staff members;
  • Maintaining discretion, tact, and confidentiality in all matters;
  • All other duties as required and assigned.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle stress, and work outside normal work hours when necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized law school.
  • Member of Law Society of British Columbia.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years of experience serving clients in the areas of business, criminal, family or civil law.
