Whereas the National Elder Law and International Law Sections wish to foster greater participation by increasing the number of Members-at-Large on their respective executive committees

Whereas the governing Council of the Ontario Bar Association and the CBA Membership Committee support a pilot project to reduce the membership fee for law school students in Ontario to nil

Whereas the Executive Director oversees all the operations of the Canadian Bar Association including communications, finance, human resources, international development, legal and governmental affairs, marketing and membership — in other words, the duties of a chief executive officer.

The name of the conference is the Young Lawyers – Canadian Bar Association (the Conference, or YL-CBA).

Whereas Young Lawyers – CBA has adopted amendments to its bylaws with a view to streamlining its elections and operations

Whereas the mandate of the Canadian Bar Association includes promoting respect for human rights and the rule of law

Whereas the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) provide that Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor their family members to come to Canada as permanent residents, provided they are not inadmissible

Whereas the CBA has a commitment to contribute to the maintenance of high ethical standards and high standards of competence within the legal profession

Whereas the Uniform Law Conference of Canada adopted the Uniform [International] Commercial Mediation Act (UCMA) to facilitate the use of mediation for the resolution of commercial disputes

Whereas the mission of the Canadian Bar Association is, in part, to improve the administration of justice and to represent the legal profession nationally and internationally
