  • May 02, 2022

The Canadian Bar Association is saddened by the passing of the Honourable John R.R. Jennings on April 28, 2022. He served the Canadian legal profession and our Association well during his long career.

A CBA member since his call to the bar in 1964, John Jennings served the Canadian Bar Association in many roles, ranging from Chair of the Ontario Young Lawyers Conference to Chair of the CBA Family Law Section to President of the Ontario Branch, and culminating in his serving as CBA President in 1989-1990.

As CBA President, he ensured that the association’s activities were oriented to serve the needs of the membership while making a meaningful contribution to the Canadian public. He was also committed to the enhancement of the role of national Sections. He is also well remembered for his commitment to modernize the profession and to encourage young lawyers to maintain a balance between work, family and service to the profession.

After his active involvement of many years with the CBA, he became a Superior Court Judge in Ontario.

On behalf of the CBA, I extend my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
