Statement from the CBA President Steeves Bujold on the death of J. Patrick Peacock K.C.

  • December 05, 2022

The Canadian Bar Association is extremely saddened by the passing of J. Patrick Peacock K.C. on December 4, 2022. He served the Canadian legal profession and our Association well during his long career.

Pat Peacock was the 60th President of the Canadian Bar Association from 1988-1989. A CBA member since his call to the bar in 1968, he served as Chair of the 61st Annual National Convention in 1979, as President of the Alberta Branch in 1983-1984 and as Chair of the Law for the Future Fund from 1986-1988.

One of his priorities as CBA President was implementing the recommendations of the Leckie Task Force to restructure the Association. His focus was on developing a long-term planning function and increasing the emphasis on Section activities to bring more stability to the organization. He is described as a president who respected and appreciated the work done by CBA staff and volunteers.

A devoted football fan, Pat Peacock also served as the president of the Calgary Stampeders in 1985-1986.

On behalf of the CBA, we want to extend our condolences to his wife Virginia Engel, his family, friends and colleagues.
