OTTAWA – To celebrate the accomplishments of The Honourable Douglas R. Campbell for championing issues of equality within the institutions of the legal profession including the judiciary, the Canadian Bar Association is awarding him the Touchstone Award.

Justice Campbell’s contributions to the advancement of equality in Canada is significant and extensive. He is recognized for bringing judges together with disadvantaged individuals and communities as part of the educational experience. His innovative work in judicial education on equality issues has contributed to making Canada an international leader in this field.

- From 1988 to 1994, Director of the Western Judicial Education Centre where he worked with leaders in judicial education in the Provincial Courts of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Territorial Courts of Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
- Former Advisor to the Asia-Pacific Forum on Judicial Education on Equality Issues (1997 to 2007) and former Advisor to the Judicial Independence and Human Dignity Project for Judges of the Palestinian Authority (2005 to 2012).
- Assisted in the development of judicial education programs on human rights and equality in China, Australia, India, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Fiji and Nepal.
- Appointed Judge of the Federal Court of Canada, Trial Division and ex officio member of the Court of Appeal and Judge of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada on December 8, 1995.
- Since July 2, 2003 – Judge of the Federal Court.
- Since January 1, 2011 – Supernumerary Judge of the Federal Court.
- Judge of the Provincial Court of British Columbia for 22 years, appointed in 1974.
