  • April 15, 2013

TORONTO – The Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA) and the Rotman School of Management have announced that they are jointly launching a certification program for Canadian in-house counsel. The program will develop and assess the skills, knowledge, and attributes essential to be regarded as both a trusted legal advisor and strategic business partner.

The announcement was made on Monday, April 15 at the CCCA National Spring Conference by Grant Borbridge, Q.C., Chair of the CCCA, and Roger Martin, Dean of the Rotman School of Management. The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto is the academic partner of the Certification Program.

“The CCCA’s Certification Committee and the Rotman School of Management have worked for the past year to develop the certification program being launched today,” says CCCA Chair Grant Borbridge. “The program fulfills the learning and competency needs required by in-house counsel who are looking to advance in their careers, and who are ultimately looking to become a General Counsel or member of the executive team.”

“This program provides an enormous advantage to CCCA members, giving them a competitive edge over their peers,” continues Mr. Borbridge. “Essentially, graduates of the Certified In-House Counsel. Canada program will have proven that they can use their legal skills and business knowledge to solve complex and ever-changing organizational challenges.”

Comprised of in-person learning, online learning and an experiential component, students will complete the program in approximately one to two years. The first cohort will begin the process in early 2014. Upon completion, graduates will receive the designation CIC.C (Certified In-House Counsel. Canada).
