Save the date for the next AGM

  • November 08, 2017

WAIT, you’re thinking. Didn’t we just have the AGM?

Yes we did, in August, in Montreal – and with participation from hubs across the country, it was the first of its kind.

But the CBA Bylaws passed at that meeting call for the AGM to be held “not later than six months after the end of the Association’s preceding fiscal year” – which was the end of August, 2017.

Besides, who doesn’t want to come to Ottawa in February during the city’s famous Winterlude?

This year’s meeting will be held at the Delta Hotels, Ottawa City Centre, on Feb. 15, but once again we’re encouraging members to participate from hubs as well. Information on the agenda, hub locations and other meeting details will be coming soon, so keep an eye on cba.org for more information.

Resolutions

The AGM gives you a chance to propose and vote on resolutions that shape the governance and policies of the CBA. The deadline to submit resolutions is Dec. 7. The usual rules apply:

Resolutions shall not exceed 300 words and shall include:

a. The preamble (if any), giving concise, factual information about the nature of the problem or reason for the action being requested

b. A resolving clause, clearly outlining the action to be taken

Fill out the resolutions submission form (login required) and submit it with the resolution to Tamra L. Thomson by email or by mail at The Canadian Bar Association, Suite 500, 865 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1S 5S8.
