CBA STATEMENT ON JUSTICE MINISTERS’ MEETING

The Canadian Bar Association is pleased that Ministers of Justice from across Canada have come together to address issues pertaining to the crisis currently affecting the judicial system.

We welcome the renewed energy that today’s meeting has brought to this.

The pressing problem of court delays is of deep concern to the CBA, and has been so for quite some time. We’ve provided a Top 10 List on how governments could address the situation and are encouraged to see some of them among the priorities for further discussion in September.

CBA also believes that it will take the combined efforts of Federal, Provincial and Territorial governments, together with other stakeholders in the criminal justice system, to achieve meaningful and effective change.  The CBA looks forward to contributing substantively to the discussion.
