CBA Influence: Resolutions and submissions to government

  • February 23, 2016

A number of the resolutions passed by CBA Council at the Mid-Winter meeting in Ottawa in February are of interest to lawyers working in the business and corporate field. To wit:

16-01-M: Joint Policy Statement on Audit Inquiries

This is the first change to a 1978 agreement which establishes protocols for communications between law firms, auditors and preparers of financial statements as part of an audit of financial statements. It will come into effect on Dec. 1. Read on for more.

16-03-M: Model Business Principles on Forced Labour, Labour Trafficking and Illegal or Harmful Child Labour

CBA Council voted to adopt model business principles drafted by a CCCA working group, and urge Canadian lawyers band businesses to adopt and implement their own business and supply chain principles consistent with the model business principles.

As well, we’ve written to the ministers of Finance and Small Business about their mandate to amend the small business tax rate.
