Online CLE "Land Transactions With the Crown"

This session will familiarize you with some of the unique issues to consider when conducting a land transaction with the Crown.  Things like adverse possession, Crown grants and other types of conveyance documents, appropriate authority and sized properties will all be discussed.  There will also be a short section on the Quieting Titles Act and the duty to consult with the aboriginal peoples.

Our Speakers:

Mark Everett will present the Federal Government perspective.    

Mark Everett is Legal Counsel with the Department of Justice Canada, PWGSC Legal Services.  He received his post secondary education at the University of New Brunswick (B.B.A., 1992 and LL.B., 1996) and Saint Mary's University (M.B.A., 2006).  Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Mark was a Solicitor with Nova Scotia Power Inc.  Prior to that Mark was the Manager of Business Development for Atlantic Canada with Stewart Title Guaranty Company.  Mark was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 1997 and the Nova Scotia Bar in 2006.

Amy Parker will present the Province's perspective.

 Amy Parker has been a lawyer with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice since 1994.  She has provided legal advice on a wide range of subjects, including institutional abuse litigation, human rights, and real property assessment.  Since 1998, she has provided legal advice to the Department of Natural Resources in respect of wildlife, parks, beaches, enforcement, treasure trove, and real property.  In addition, she represents the Attorney General on all matters related to the Quieting Titles Act.
