FREDERICTON (NB)—The Canadian Bar Association New Brunswick Branch is urging the Minister of Justice and Consumer Affairs, the Honorable T.J. Burke, to take a second look at the province’s insurance legislation.

In a letter sent to the Minister today, the New Brunswick Branch President, René J. Basque, expressed concern that the recent Rossignol v. Rubidge decision reveals flaws in the current legislation: “This decision provides a clear example of how the existing legislation provides an unfair advantage to automobile insurers at the expense of New Brunswickers who have sustained substantial injuries in motor vehicle accidents.”

The New Brunswick branch of the Canadian Bar Association has asked to meet with the Minister to discuss amendments to the legislation.

The Canadian Bar Association is dedicated to improvement in the law and the administration of justice.  Some 36,000 lawyers, notaries, law teachers and law students from across Canada are members.  There are 1750 members in New Brunswick.
