Allan P Seckel, QC, Deputy Attorney General

llan P. Seckel was appointed Deputy Attorney General for British Columbia in 2003, following a successful career in civil litigation and class action practice in Vancouver. As Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Seckel oversees the administration of justice in the province, including offering administrative, security and enforcement services to support the independent judiciary, and prosecuting offences under Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and under provincial statutes. Mr. Seckel played a key role in articulating a vision for justice transformation in British Columbia, and provides leadership in the design and implementation of criminal, civil and family justice reform projects (please see www.ag.gov.bc.ca/justice-reform-initiatives/index.htm).

Mr. Seckel earned a B.A. (Honours) in Economics and Commerce in 1980 from Simon Fraser University before studying Law at the University of Victoria, where was awarded the law Society Gold Medal on graduation. He then articled with Chief Justice Nemetz, and Russell & DuMoulin. In 1986, he attended the University of Cambridge (Gonville Caius College) as a Commonwealth Scholar and completed a Master of Laws degree. When he returned to Vancouver he worked with Russell & DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau), where he built a civil litigation and class action practice. He is the author or co-author of two legal texts and numerous articles on law and law reform.

Mr. Seckel lives in Vancouver with his wife and their three children. He is active in the community as a coach of girls basketball teams and is an avid runner, reader and cook.
