Fort St John 2009


ort St John's Law Day events were held on April 8 and 16, 2009. On April 8, the RCMP gave a presentation on "Responding to Drug Houses." On April 16, the well-attended mock trial of Regina v Goldilocks was held at the Fort St John Courthouse. Goldilocks was charged with theft of porridge and mischief for breaking Baby Bear’s chair. The three bears testified as witnesses in this case. The mock trial was presented by the Grade 5/6 class from Ambrose Elementary School. The Honourable Judge B Daley presided and Crown Counsel Paul Swartz and Defense Counsel Randolph Smythe tried the case before Judge Daley. Sheriff Rob Kearns and Criminology Instructor Tanya Helton provided assistance to students. The RCMP Detachment Open House was held from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

On Saturday, April 25, 2009, the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch held its province-wide “Dial-A-Lawyer” as part of Law Week. Fort St John area residents were invited to call 1.800.663.1919 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm to speak with a lawyer for up to 15 minutes at no cost.
