aw Week is a national event originated by the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) celebrating the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Held every April, Law Day provides an important opportunity to help Canadians learn about their justice system and to project a positive image of the CBA and the legal profession. The theme for Law Week 2007 was “Access to Justice” and this year, we also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Law Week events were held across the province in the communities of Dawson Creek, Fort St John, Nanaimo, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, Prince George, Vancouver and Victoria. In celebration of Law Week, a number of events such as mock trials, free law classes, citizenship ceremonies, courthouse tours, a public speaking contest and an essay contest for high school students were held throughout British Columbia.
