aw Day is a national event held annually in April celebrating the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Originated by the Canadian Bar Association and first held in Canada in 1983, Law Day provides the public with an opportunity to learn about the law and some of the legal institutions that form the cornerstones of Canadian democracy. It also provides the profession with an opportunity to educate the public about the vital role lawyers and the judiciary play in guaranteeing an open, independent and unbiased judicial system.

The Law Day 2010 theme was Access to Justice: Justice for All. Law Day events across Canada were made possible through the efforts of hundreds of lawyers who generously donate thousands of hours of volunteer time.

Law Week events in British Columbia were held from April 11 to 17, 2010. Law Week events included the popular Dial-A-Lawyer program, mock trials, a public speaking contest for students, free law classes, citizenship ceremonies, courthouse tours, a panel on legal aid and a fun run and free public forum in Vancouver.
