Lawyers in the Canadian Bar Association Citizenship & Immigration Law Section are offering to review immigration applications without charge for Canadians and permanent residents in Canada who wish to sponsor family members living in areas affected by the tsunami disaster.
These immigration lawyers are offering to help review the applications and necessary paperwork in the context of the Government of Canada’s emergency relief program.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has committed to fast-track existing applications of Family Class applicants under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act who are seriously and personally affected by the disaster and who have immediate family members in Canada. For more information on this initiative, please visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/tsunami.
Here’s how to access this service:
- Visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sponsor to get all the necessary forms and documentation.
- Complete the paperwork and gather all the necessary documentation.
- Click “Find a lawyer” below to find an immigration lawyer near you.
- Contact the immigration lawyer to arrange a consultation.
- File the necessary documentation with CIC. You are responsible for any applicable filing costs.
Please note that the services offered do not extend to other applications, such as non-family members wishing to adopt or sponsor a child affected by the tsunami disaster. Lawyers will help determine, on a case-by-case basis, whether applicants are eligible for free services. This service applies to the review of completed applications. Applicants should complete all paperwork as best as possible before consulting a lawyer.
