Deconfliction and Naval Operations : Resolving Conflicts on the Operational, Legal, and Practical Level

Join us for this joint session between the Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia (CBANS) Military Law Section, the Dalhousie University Centre for Foreign Policy Studies (CFPS) and the Dalhousie Marine Piracy Project (DMPP).

The discussions will feature participation by Professor David Griffiths of Cape Breton University, Professor Hugh Williamson (LCdr, ret'd) of DMPP, and a "Gold Riband Panel" consisting of Dusty Millar (VAdm, ret'd), Eric Lehre (Cmdre, ret'd), Larry Hickey (Cmdre, ret'd) and Mark Sloan of CFPS and DMPP.

The topics to be covered include the following:

  1. Incidents at Sea Agreements and Confidence-Building Measures for Naval Operations (Professor Griffiths);
  2. Legal Issues for the Protection of Canadian Merchant Vessels in Pirate Waters (Professor Williamson); and
  3. Making the Hard Decisions in a Complex Maritime Environment (Panel).

Space is limited to 70 participants so be sure to register early.
