I write to draw your attention to current opportunities for involvement in the CBA. Even if your current work has not yet involved active CBA participation or leadership roles within the organization, that just means you haven’t done it yet. There is a place for you in the CBA.
Call for Articles - Touchstones – The Newsletter of the CBA's Equality Committee
CBA’s Equality Committee is currently seeking contributions for the 2013 issue of our Touchstones Newsletter. This issue seeks to include a broad range of subject areas and perspectives on the subjects of accessibility, disability, and the legal profession.
Articles should be 500-800 words in length. Maximum article length is 1000 words. Articles may be submitted electronically in either English or French in Microsoft Word format.
Submissions should be sent on or before the closing date of April 1, 2013 to Rebeccab@cba.org

Valli Chettiar of Vancouver is the winner of the 2012 Touchstone Award for her outstanding accomplishments in promoting equality in the Canadian legal community.
“Valli Chettiar is among our profession’s strongest leaders on equality and diversity issues,” says Aleem Bharmal, Chair of the CBA’s Standing Committee on Equality. “As a passionate advocate for social justice, Valli has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to representing the interests of minority groups.”
Ms. Chettiar has devoted countless hours to equality initiatives over the past two decades. As Chair of the CBA-BC Equality Committee, she played a key role in the Branch’s adoption of an accommodation policy to facilitate access to Branch activities for all members. She was also the first Equality representative on the CBA-BC Executive Committee, providing valuable input on complicated and sensitive issues affecting the profession.

Tips for Firms and Member Organizations Seeking to Promote Inclusion and Diversity
As a follow-up to the videos that were made available online, the CBA's Equality Committee developed a list of specific tips on promoting inclusion in law firms.
The Equality Committee is doing law reform work in conjunction with YL-CBA and the Woman Lawyers Forum to advocate for enhanced flexibility in EI maternity and parental benefits. A written submission was put forward late last year and can be viewed online.
The RARE Finds working group of the Canadian Bar Association's Equality Committee is looking for success stories.
