Presented by the Canadian Bar Association's National Competition Law Section and Continuing Legal Education Committee
September 18-19, 2008 Hilton Lac Leamy Hotel, Gatineau, Quebec
Join your colleagues for Canada's premier competition law conference.
Competition law has never been as important as it is today. The Competition Policy Review Panel has examined the Competition Act and Investment Canada Act, the Competition Bureau continues to investigate high profile criminal cartel cases, the Canada Pipe abuse case has established new rules for dominant companies, and the Labatt merger decisions by the Competition Tribunal, Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal have placed merger review in Canada in the spotlight.
At the same time, the number and significance of competition laws around the world continue to grow, with countries such as China and India introducing new laws, and organizations such as the International Competition Network, the OECD, the WTO, and the ICC continuing their work on the balance between competition laws and international business interests.
These developments have profound implications for companies with operations in Canada, for Canadian businesses doing business abroad, for foreign investors, including sovereign wealth funds, and for companies trying to ensure day-to-day compliance with distribution, pricing, and advertising laws.
This year’s conference will bring together leading experts from Canada and around the world to address these issues. In addition, for the first time the conference will be interactive: all attendees will have the opportunity to submit “e-questions” prior to the conference which will be addressed directly by panellists.
For those who register for the dinner on Thursday, September 18, 2008, you will be entertained by Bob Robertson, creator and co-star of the hugely successful CBC comedy show Double Exposure and a columnist for The Globe and Mail.
Make sure to register for the Competition Bureau's First Annual Charity Golf Event on Wednesday, September 17, 2008!
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Antitrust, competition, commercial, corporate, advertising and marketing, telecommunications and international trade lawyers in private practice, civil and criminal litigators, in-house counsel, economists, enforcement officials, academics and business persons with an interest in competition law and policy.
